I had a super time here in America. The bicycle tour from Portland to Death Valley was my super dream bicycle tour. I heard “your living the dream” multiple times from the people I met. I feel lucky, at 62 that I’m healthy and have the motivation to continually seek adventure. I also did the bike tour to reaffirm my choice to move to the EU. No question about it, the EU’s social & economic values are more representative of my values.

EATING, DRINKING AND BIKING, my last month in SKOFJA LOKA
There’s maybe 5 restaurants around Skofja Loka, and I plan to eat a last supper at all of them. Earlier I explained to Natasa that I liked to go out to eat. She said she’s willing to go out once a month. That’s 12 times a year, there’s over 1,000 meals a year. I explained the main reason I wanted to go out was to just be together and talk. Not jump up and check the pasta or do the dishes, just hang out together. After explaining it to her 5 or 6 times, I gave up, she just didn’t get it. Now I can go out anytime I want and that’s what I plan to do.

3 WEEK FAREWELL SLOVENIA CAR/BIKE TOUR
Sorry to my peeps, I’ve been busy moving from my apartment in Skofja Loka, Slovenia. I’ve been in America about a month. This is the first day of my 4-5 month bike tour of the Oregon & /California coasts. I have some free days to play blog catch up.

LJUBLJANA TO RATECE (Italian border) ON THE “NEW” BIKE PATH. MUSEUM DESK SHOW (photos)
I try to ride my bike weekly from Skofja Loka to Ljubljana (25km). On one journey home I notice some new Red Bike Signs that directed you to “Kranj.”. I wondered what route it took and why there was no signs to Skofja Loka?

WHERE THE HELL IS VELENJE SLOVENIA? & WHAT IS THERE TO DO?
I volunteered to set up an Electric-Bike (E-Bike) testing area., during the European Mobility Week. I love to bicycle, but for transportation the E-Bike can replace your car, in lots of situations. We had 30 people test ride the E-Bike, all came back with huge smiles. One of the other participants also had an E-bike for testing. I talked with him and he said he was from Velenje (where?). He told me there are 60 km of separated bike paths in Velenje & you can get an E-Bike too!, I’m in. Continue reading “WHERE THE HELL IS VELENJE SLOVENIA? & WHAT IS THERE TO DO?”
SLOVENIAN KAMNIK ALPS LOOP BIKE TOUR with Stanley
I like my Blog to focus on bicycles and the positive contributions bikes can play in our lives. I had already ridden & written about the Kamnik Alps loop bike ride. MAP. I’ve been wanting to re-do the ride because of the nature and people this tour provides. Stanley wanted to visit Slovenia, so this was the perfect ride to show off Slovenia (& a little of Austria too). Continue reading “SLOVENIAN KAMNIK ALPS LOOP BIKE TOUR with Stanley”
DRAVA RIVER BICYCLE TRIP, THROUGH AUSTRIA/SLOVENIA
I spent this winter researching potential bike trips and discovered the Drava River Route. It runs from Italy through Austria and ends in Slovenia. The train can be used to start or finish the trip. From Toblacher, Italy, for 400 km along the Drava River, through East Austria to Ptuj in Slovenia. Continue reading “DRAVA RIVER BICYCLE TRIP, THROUGH AUSTRIA/SLOVENIA”
SKOFJA LOKA IS A HAPPENING PLACE, NOW WITH CREATIVE TOURISM
I’ve lived in Skofja Loka for 2 years now, still speaking basically no Slovenian. The question I get frequently is “do you speak any Slovenian?” The language (if you can call it that), is difficult, to say the least, I think that’s why they keep asking me. It’s split about 50/50 the young people tell me, “don’t bother.” The older folks say I should learn some, easier said than done. 80-90% of the people I come in contact speak English with me and are fine with it. I need to speak when there is a group of people, they may speak English, but there not going to just for me, so maybe learn some huh? Most of the shows on TV are in English, not like in Italy where maybe 1 or 2 channels are in English.
Skofja Loka’s is changing, it’s become bike friendlier, tourist are discovering our town and many coming for return visits. Continue reading “SKOFJA LOKA IS A HAPPENING PLACE, NOW WITH CREATIVE TOURISM”
LJUBLJANA & OTHER TALES
I love Skofja Loka, but sometimes I get a case of small town fever. So I’ve been riding my bike weekly and sometimes twice weekly to Ljubljana, round trip about 52 km. The new spring leaves were on most of the trees, then it snowed 10 centimeters on April 27th. Well the heavy snow broke tree branches on nearly every tree I saw. U.S.A. & Portland vs EU & SLOVENIA? (vote Bernie Sanders)
I have lived & worked in America for 57 years. I had a few jobs as a teenager, but mostly I’ve been self-employed running several different business’s. I feel my experience in business and life in America, gives me some insights to the opportunities & struggles of living in America. I’m asked all the time if I miss America. So I thought it could make an interesting post, both for me & you. 3 years of living in Europe has given me a first hand experience of living a more social agenda.
