ANZA BORREGO A DESERT OASIS & THE SALTON SEA.

I’ve been to Anza Borrego Springs desert 4 or 5 times.  I finally witnessed a Big Horn Sheep walking through the campground.  I hiked up Palm Canyon, an oasis in desert where a spring sustains palm trees & wildlife.  Anza Borrego the town has this great 60’s feel, especially Carlees Steak House. There are lots of jeeps here, (tearing up the desert).

HOW DID THAT PALM TREE GET UNDER THAT ROCK?

The park ranger let me stay 4 nights (your only allowed 3).  I didn’t want to share the road with the weekend campers.  On monday I maybe had 20 cars pass me all day.  The Galleta Pkwy  , has 130 full size metal sculptures around the desert near Borrego Springs.  I was just riding 35 miles to the Salton Sea, so I took a slight detour to see the art sculptures.  My computer broke, I needed stove fuel and the bike needed a bolt.  I rode to Indio and stayed in my first hotel in 3 months.

SALTON SEA
THERE WERE LOTS OF “GATED” COMMUNITIES IN PALM DESERT

They have made the desert bloom here.  Rows of Date, Orange, Lime, & Lemon trees, peppers and other assorted vegetables.  Trump complains about the illegal immigrants and all the problems he says they’re causing.  He probably isn’t aware that those same illegal immigrants probably picked the food he ate last night.

NEW ORANGE ORCHARD

THIS WAS AN AMAZING OPERATION, HARVESTING 10 ROWS AT A TIME, WITH CONVEYOR BELT MOVING FRUIT TO TRACTOR WORKTABLE WHERE THE PEPPERS ARE BOXED AND SENT AROUND THE COUNTRY.
CORPORATE FARMING WASTE LOTS OF FOOD, I SAW LOTS OF FRUIT JUST ROTTING ON THE GROUND.
ACRES OF PLASTIC COVERED RAISED BEDS, WITH DRIP IRRIGATION UNDER THE PLASTIC.
PROBABLY NOT ORGANIC

There was a new solar project being built and the statistics were impressive.  Google maps are mostly good, but sometimes they’re wrong.  They thought I should ride the road that follows the agricultural water canal, sign says “no trespassing”.  I turned around and ended up riding an extra 10 miles.  There is They have a serious dumping problem, I was a little shocked at all the stuff that was dumped.

I haven’t had reliable WiFi for almost a month, hence no Blog. And now my blog program is acting up so this is the best I could do.
Enjoy
