SALTON SEA-200 ft below sea level to 3000 ft above at JOSHUA TREE

The weather has been as great as advertised.  I didn’t ride far, only 34 miles, but it was up ALL day, killed me.  Again, maybe 10 cars, and a few trucks, all day.

Last time I rode Box Canyon, it was downhill, a lot more enjoyable.  It’s still beautiful this direction.  If it rains they usually close this road, it can get 5 ft. (1 1/2 m) of rushing water through the canyon.

STRAIGHT AND STRAIGHT UP

I tried hitchhiking the last 7 miles, no luck.  I stuck my thumb out and two Asian tourist thought I was giving them the “OK” thumbs up-they both gave me a thumbs up, back. Oh Well.

I talked with the park ranger about camping.  She said the whole park is full.  I mentioned maybe “sharing” someone’s site, she said no way.  What am I suppose to do then? I thought park rangers were suppose to help?  So I rode 35 miles to the first campground and found a site to “share”.   Then I met someone with a truck and bike rack and he gave me a ride to JUMBO ROCKS campground (better campground).  It took me a few minutes but I found someone again, to share the site.  They left on Saturday, so I claimed the site and shared the site, since I had no car.  I have to admit, I put a fun group of people together.
