BALKANS-ITALY TRAIN-BUS-BLABLA CAR (ride share), HITCHHIKE & BIKE TOUR

I prefer to travel with my bike, but it’s winter and I want to cover a lot of ground. I plan to rent, borrow or beg a bike where ever I am. Starting in Budapest, touring the Balkans, ferry from Albania to Italy, then the Amalfi coast to Venice with stops in between. I’ll be posting when I have something to share. Enjoy

5 DAYS IN BUDAPEST, HUNGARY

I had a friend Mark (from Portland), who I met while biking back from Kamnik. He lived in Budapest for several years, so I asked for his recommendations on where to stay? Maverick City Lodge. 5 star!, The hostel’s restaurant was awesome too, had a Vegan breakfast!

I’ve been once before to Budapest, but this time it’s by myself. I rented an E-Bike and ripped the town up. I used up the battery in 3.5 hours and had to pedal home. The E-Bike and tour bus were the same price, the E-Bike was way more adventuresome.

As a Climate Change lifestyle activist, I always seek out the Vegan Restaurants & the local brew pubs, that sell local beer. It takes you to different neighborhoods where you can mingle with some locals. I ate GREAT VEGAN BBQ @ VEGANKOSMOSZ with sweet potato fries and Vegan Goulash!

I was watching CNN one night and they had a special “UNIQUE BUDAPEST”. I learned about the miniature sculptures placed around the city (more sculptures HERE). With the e-bike, fully re-charged, I searched out the sculptures and other city views. There’s American themes in the sculptures, Columbo (TV show) is there to solve the murder of the frog. There is a Lisa Simpson sculpture too, but couldn’t find it, I met some people who were looking for it too, no luck. While heading to a sculpture I stumbled upon a festival in the park, wouldn’t have attended if it wasn’t for the bike.

I love to collect & send postcards, while supporting artist too. This series of cards killed.

VIDEO OF FOOD, MUSIC AND CRAFTS IN THE PARK

I didn’t do everything on my Budapest lists like the hot mineral baths or the largest antique market in Europe. The train from Ljubljana to Budapest is only 15 euro, I’ll be back.
I’m in Nova Sad as I write this. I’ve always wanted to come here. It’s the second largest city in Serbia and about the same size as Ljubljana, where I live. Easier to Navigate than Budapest.
Enjoy,
Jeff
