I ATTEND BUDAPEST’S “BANNED” GAY PRIDE PARADE

I DESIGNED THE STICKER, T-SHIRT AND POSTER.

I was going to see AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS an Australian rock band in Vienna and planning to go to the Gay Pride Parade in Budapest too. All were in the same week. Instead of going to Vienna, back to Ljubljana for a couple days, then to Budapest. I got an apartment for 4 days in Budapest and went directly to Budapest from Vienna.

I’VE HAD THE TICKET FOR 2 MONTHS, I MADE AMYL, A BUDAPEST PROTEST T-SHIRT. I WENT EARLY, WANDERED BEHIND THE VENUE TO GIVE MY GIFT, THEY SADLY INFORMED ME AMYL HAD A 40c TEMPERATURE AND THE CONCERT WAS CANCELLED. I ASKED “IF THEY WANTED TO SEE A GROWN MAN CRY?” VERY BUMMED OUT, TO SAY THE LEAST.

I JUST FINISHED PUTTING THE SIGN TOGETHER IN MY BUDAPEST APARTMENT.

So I wandered around Budapest, wearing my t-shirt. Everywhere I went EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE wanted a sticker and photo. My stickers are all around Budapest now and I didn’t put up even one of them. They all wanted the same things that I do.

These are some of the photos that people wanted to take with me, I never asked.

MORE PHOTOS FROM THE MARCH

I WAS HOLDING MY SIGN AND WAS UNABLE TO TAKE ANY PHOTOS MYSELF.

When I finally got to the bridge I was dead, 5 hours of walking with my sign. Found a bench and sat. People joined in and they went for a beer run. I sat for maybe an hour. I was so beat and pretty much done marching. I got on the metro and headed back to my apartment and crashed (I’m old).

THE INDONESIAN WOMEN ON THE LEFT, HER PARENTS THINK SHE’S BEEN LIVING IN JAKARTA FOR THE PAST YEAR. NOPE, SHE’S BEEN LIVING IN BUDAPEST.

THANKS FOR READING,
JEFF
Next: I will be posting details about one of Slovenia’s best new dedicated bike paths: route and photos.

  1. Yay Jeff! What a cool experience that must have been. Sorry the concert got cancelled. I’m so amazed and happy that your stickers were a big hit.
